Should i go out with this girl?

so, this girl has been a friend of mine since freshmen year(were seniors) but she and i have almost NOTHING in common(music, hobbies, view of life) and she doesnt look like the kind of girl that i would really like(not to be mean bbut she is no miss Universe)... she told me she likes me and i kind of said the same thing back..Ive never had a girlfriend so i dont know if the smart thing to do is go out with her so i can get that first girlfriend stage the hell away from me or dont make my move.... ps: i see much about people from what music they hear and she and i dont have any artist in common(she is almost too ghettoish for my alternative rock side)..im leaning towards going out with her but im afraid that i just love the fact that ill be in a relationship and wont really like her looks/personallity...dont get me wrong, weve had some laughs through high school, and she is fun... is it normal that i cant get her out of my mind? am i in love with the fact that she is inlove with me???...i think she really likes the fact that im mature and thoughtful, which is "new" to her because she has, from what she has told me, alwayys been a very outgoing person with the same type of friends/boyfriends.my questions are: do opposites attract???should i just go out and get those first girl jitters out of my way?? ask her to prom? thx and sorry for the spelling b/c im in a hurry...
