How do you know you are having labor pains?

I am about 2 months pregnant for the first time and wanted to get more informed regarding labor (I know I have while to go) but would like to be prepared. How do you know that you are getting labor pains? How exactly do contractions feel like? When does your water necessarily break? I'm also afraid of just giving birth. I would really appreciate answers from moms who have already gone through their first time jitters. Thanks!
